Adult Romance (Contains Military Flashbacks & PTSD)

Emily Garret is “foul-mouthed, bleach blonde” 21 year old woman who works as a barista at a local coffee shop and has no plans for the future. She is a failure. She turns to sex, partying and alcohol to cope with her life. Reece Montgomery served in the military, against his parents’ wishes, and was sent home after an attack on his squadron. He lost his best friend and was injured himself, physically and mentally. He is a failure. Together Emily and Reece are broken. After a night of partying for Emily, fate brings them together. Emily is in a near fatal car crash and Reece is her savior. Can they help each other before they both spiral out of control?

Oh. My. God. I DEVOURED this book in just a couple of hours. From the very beginning, this story hooked me and I seriously could not put it down (even though I tried to force myself to savor it). The main characters, Emily and Reece, are so well developed. Both of them have complicated pasts/back stories that has brought them to a low point in their lives in which they don’t think they can overcome. They think they are failures to their family and friends. Emily is young and still finding her place in the world. Reece has a years of military experience but is scarred mentally and physically after watching the brutal attack on his squadron. They both are opposites in the way they deal with their issues. I was afraid that they could never get along but as the story progresses their chemistry is on fire. This story is surprising and thrilling. Emily and Reece definitely need each other to heal and move forward in life. I LOVED their “first” meeting, especially their “awkward” interactions and funny banter. I laughed out loud a few times and found myself grinning like a fool – a lot.

Overall I was really surprised how quickly this story hooked me and how fast I read through it. Most of the book is fast paced but it does slow down a little towards the end. The plot kept me guessing, the characters were believable and developed and the imagery/flashbacks were so realistic. I can’t wait to read more of Cole Gibsen!
