Goodreads Blurb:
“April: Walking away from Matt Moreno was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Lying to him was a close second, but for his safety, I had no other choice. I was undercover, working to put some nasty people behind bars. But when Matt nearly recognizes me on Lincoln Road a year later, all those very real feelings come rushing back. Now that my assignment’s almost over, will he understand why I lied? Why I had to leave? Most important, can he ever forgive me?
Matt: I was madly in love with June Simpson . . . or, at least, with the woman I thought was June. Then she just disappeared while my family’s nightclub went through hell. And after months of searching, when I think I’ve finally found that sexy, raspy voice and those exquisite blue eyes, she slips away once more. Turns out, “June” is actually Detective April White. She’s been playing me the whole time. And she’s about to rock my world all over again.”
My Review:
Sexy and Captivating!
This is a fast paced and sexy romance that is set up in two parts. Part one is the past and part two is the future. I really enjoyed having both “sides”/parts of the story yet I wasn’t a huge fan of this set up. Honestly, these sections couldn’t be avoided but maybe handled in a different way? Flashbacks? Although I am not a huge fan, to fully understand the story and where Matt is coming from, the past had to be presented in some form.
I had a bit of a hard time to connecting with Matt and that’s okay. To me, his character wasn’t someone I would want to associate with. He was all over the place. He IS sexy, smart, charismatic yet immature and careless. He enjoys having a good time no matter the consequences. He uses women and drugs as a means of a escape from reality. He is clearly troubled and has a lot of growing to do. April might be the person to help.
April was more likeable and I enjoyed her character. She is also smart, sexy yet has her “head on straight.” She doesn’t have a lot in common with Matt. To me they are opposites but we all know what they say about opposites attracting. In Matt’s/April’s case they definitely hit it off in the bedroom, making for some extremely steamy moments.
Once I moved on from Matt’s character and the format of the book, I really enjoyed the overall story. This book was much more than I expected, especially towards the end. I did NOT see the twist coming – READ TO FIND OUT. Kudos to Sidney Halston for that. I normally have a feeling what is going to happen but Sidney caught me off guard and I LOVE that.
