You read the title right. Instead of 5 stars I had to give this book an extra half of a star…5.5 STARS! It’s that good.

This book was EVERYTHING. It’s exactly what I needed to get out of my reading “slump”.

Where do I even begin!? I haven’t felt so many intense emotions in SO LONG. I couldn’t stop reading this book. I tried to force myself to slow down and read it in two days but all I wanted to do was DEVOUR it.

I don’t know if I can say enough about this amazing book…but I will try!

Check out the Goodreads blurb HERE. I honestly was attracted to this book by it’s cover. Yes, yes, yes…”don’t judge a book by it’s cover” blah blah blah, I know…. BUT I DO from time to time! I instantly fell in love with the cover and then read the Goodreads blurb and I knew I had to read this beauty and I am SO GLAD I DID! (I will try to limit my caps, sorry, I am just so EXCITED!)

This book follows the life of Jade Hart who has given up everything to be there for her parents, specifically for her sick mother. She gave up her future and current happiness to just survive and make a life for all of them. This book says a lot about a person’s upbringing, current environment and circumstances making a them the individual they are. I was easily able to connect with Jade because some of these things happened to me – not as severe though – and I felt that this book was the best kind of therapy. I was rooting for Jade from the very beginning and loved (and hated) watching her grow, fail and overcome.

The main characters are so well-developed and complex, which is why this story is so good. Both Jade and Hudson were real people to me which is why I became so emotional invested in their lives and outcomes. Kudos to H.M. Sholander for making such detailed characters that have stories to tell. My heart broke, warmed and then broke again over and over and over but I couldn’t stop reading.
