Alex Trevino can’t stop thinking about the stunning veterinarian, Lacey Barton. She is beautiful, smart, loves animals and sends his inner wolf into a tail spin. Being part of an exclusive Dallas SWAT team consisting of other werewolves, like himself, he has watched many of them find “the One” aka their mates. Not really looking, he doesn’t expect Lacey to be “the One”, but he has to find out…now only if Lacey would accept his offer to take her on a date.

Lacey has a heart of gold. She grew up without her parents and became the caregiver for her younger sister. She has a strong connection and love for animals so being a veterinarian brings her so much joy. Her life is crazy and busy, leaving no time to even think about dating. When a handsome officer walks into her clinic, she rejects his offer to take her on a date. This may have been a terrible choice because she can’t stop thinking about him…

When her sister goes missing, she turns to Alex for help even after witnessing an out of this world and extremely strange behavior from Alex. She pushes her fears away and must fight for her family.

I always enjoy Paige Tyler’s SWAT books. They always are full of hot chemistry and action that will keep you captivated to the very end. I devoured this book in hours! The plot and characters are well developed which allows for the paranormal aspects (werewolves) to be realistic. This creates an adventure for the reader. I didn’t feel like I struggled to grasp the “out of this world” details because the story flowed so well.

I would have liked to see more of Lacey’s past and current struggles being a “parent” to her sister. Being able to see her climb to the position she is now, a successful veterinarian and loving care giver, would have made me appreciate and connect with her even more. I would also have liked to see Alex pursue Lacey more. It could have brought some humor and angst to this book.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was fresh and a nice change from the current romance novels I have been reading.
